DNA methylation – Methylation patterns and their effect on expression

Using the Genomatix Genome Analyzer (GGA), mapping DNA methylation data is as simple as mapping any other sequencing data. This is possible due to the ability of the Genomatix mapping algorithm to align reads to the genome with base sensitive T->C conversion. No specific libraries or additional processing is required.

After mapping, the coverage and methylation for all CpGs are provided. For promoter based analysis, statistics are provided for each promoter annotated in our comprehensive annotation database (ElDorado). As methylation patterns are known to effect gene expression, these statistics can give indications about methylation based gene silencing.

Comparing expression and methylation data allows to investigate the global and local effects of promoter methylation. The Genomatix Pathways System (GePS) can be used to include methylation data into the network analysis.
