Genomatix Processing and Integration of DNase I Hypersensitive Sites from High-Resolution Mapping and Characterization of Open Chromatin across the Genome into ElDorado extended Genome Anntotation.

Boyle_et_al

In their remarkable work Boyle et al. applied Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) strategies based on Illumina's Solexa high-throughput system for genome wide identification of open chromatin within human primary CD4+ cells.
The data as deposited at the Gene Expression Omnibus database comprise roughly 15 million 20-mer sequence tags. They were submitted to the Genomatix analysis pipeline and integrated into the Genomatix ElDorado extended genome annotation database.

This workflow shows the tremendous advantages of Genomatix approaches. It demonstrates the value of superior mapping technology in combination with the most accurate and complete genome annotation available. Integration of new high throughput sequencing data from any source into and correlation with existing extended annotation is key to better understanding genome organization and regulation.

As a side note, the data from Boyle et al. deliver first-rate additional experimental confirmation of existing definition and annotation of eukaryotic proximal promoters as pioneered by Genomatix since many years.
